CAPE CRUISEDER Office System
Date
2011
We initiated this project by observing the beauty of a flowing cloth in the air. We also noticed that furniture systems within our office space often consist of separate elements, while sculptures are introduced into the space. We wanted to merge these two disciplines into a single unit that is functional for visitors within an office space.
Thus, we utilized a single geometrical element that comprises a seat, a centered table, and an opposing seat that resembles a flowing cloth. We envisioned the structure to be made of plywood and clad with a soft fabric or felt-like material. Once placed within an office interior, this element represents a flowing cloth while simultaneously providing a space for users to sit, discuss projects, conduct meetings, and engage in useful cross-pollination of ideas.
The design is modular in composition, allowing for the creation of a highly elongated sitting space when slid next to each other.
